Hot stove league

Usually hot-stove rumors involve players. But in Boston, rumors are swirling about a potential return for former GM Theo Epstein.

ESPN.com is reporting that while the team interviews candidates for Epstein's old job, some continue to hope that Theo and Larry Lucchino can iron out their differences, smoothing a path for Epstein to return to his former position.

Some in the ownership group hold out hope that Epstein can resolve his differences with Lucchino and return as the GM. Contrary to some reports, Lucchino has not rejected that idea, and wants Epstein back, (Peter) Gammons reported.
